District IV Highlights: Nursing program awarded $700,000 grant

Coleman College nursing studentThe Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has awarded a $700,000 grant to the HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences Nursing program. The funds from this grant will be specifically targeted toward four primary goals to help meet the continuing shortage of registered nurses in the state of Texas.

The grant, which will go to the associate degree Nursing program, will help meet the enrollment goal of increasing the number of students in the program. It will enhance nursing education facilities for the education, recruitment and retention of faculty. The grant will also encourage innovation in the recruitment and retention of students, including Spanish-speaking and bilingual students. Lastly, it will assist the college in identifying and implementing innovative methods to make the most effective use of limited professional nursing faculty, as well as instructional or clinical space.
