District IV Newsletter: Dear neighbors

Feb 10, 2014

Dear neighbors,

Carroll G. Robinson
Trustee, District IVAs we begin a new year, the Houston Community College Board of Trustees is in the process of hiring the next Chancellor to lead the District. During this process, we will be selecting a leader committed to enhancing, improving and increasing student success, transparency and accountability to our community.

During the course of this year, construction will begin on several of the HCC bond projects. The Board of Trustees has established an independent community Bond Oversight Committee to help us make sure that bond projects are built on time and on budget. The District IV representative on the Bond Oversight Committee is Paul Charles.

This year, my focus will include continuing to improve campus safety and security, building a second building in the Texas Medical Center for the Coleman College of Health Sciences and a new Medical Science and Technology Early College Charter High School at Hwy 288 and North MacGregor.

Bringing Academic and Workforce classes to the Palm Center area will also be a top priority along with expanding services in the Sharpstown and Alief areas.

In partnership with David Hawes and the City of Houston, HCC has been able to secure land to build a Brays Oaks-area workforce building.

Finally, elevating HCC’s Workforce and Entrepreneurship programs into a stand-alone institute with its own president and a focus on generating enterprise revenues for HCC so that we can keep tuition and fees affordable and taxes low will also be on my list of things to get done in 2014. So, too, will be establishing more Child Care facilities at HCC so that more parents can take advantage of our academic and workforce courses to help make life better for themselves and their families.

Thank you for allowing me to represent you!

Have a Blessed and Wonderful New Year!

Carroll G. Robinson
Trustee, District IV
