Bedichek-Orman Auction raises funds for faculty at HCC

Nov 2, 2014

The theme was "A Journey to Outer Space," and the mission was to raise money for professional development grants at Houston Community College.

The 2014 Bedichek-Orman Faculty Development Auction and Dinner at the West Loop Auditorium brought in close to $9,000.

More than 140 faculty, staff, administrators and trustees raised the money through live and silent auctions while they enjoyed dinner, drinks and entertainment.

That included a well-received video greeting from Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC chancellor who dressed as Captain Kirk from Star Trek and “beamed in” from another planet.

“We gathered together to raise money for a worthy goal and had a great time too,” said Dr. Alan Ainsworth, HCC faculty representative. “This year, Dr. Maldonado’s willingness to send us his special greetings sent us to the moon.”

The Bedichek-Orman Faculty Development Fund honors two respected professors, Wendell Bedichek and Helen Orman, and is used for professional development and Teaching Excellence Awards.

During the auction, Central College English professor Syble Davis, Central College Dance professor Julie Bata, and Northwest College History professor Christopher Patke were each awarded $500 for teaching excellence.
