Have you ever dreamed of living in another country and learning how to speak the language? Houston Community College (HCC) students can take part in a unique opportunity to study in Taiwan and learn Chinese through a wonderful educational partnership.

The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston in conjunction with HCC-ASPIRE (Asian Scholarship Program Inspiring Results and Excellence) are offering students financial assistance for a once in a lifetime chance to live and study in Taiwan. How long you stay is your choice. It could be anywhere from two months to one year.

“This is a one-of-a-kind partnership for HCC-ASPIRE,” said Neeta Sane, HCC Board of Trustees, District VII and HCC-ASPIRE founder and president. “We are excited about these amazing opportunities with Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston.”

The Ministry of Education (MOE) Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) is to encourage American students and individuals to undertake Mandarin Chinese language training and courses at Chinese language institutes affiliated with universities or colleges in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

“The educational collaboration between the Education Division of TECO in Houston and Houston Community College is aiming at expanding students’ horizons and their international learning experiences,” said Sophie Chou, director of TECO in Houston Education Division. “Through the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) program granted by the Taiwan Ministry of Education, students will be able to take on Chinese language immersion opportunities as well as experience an up-close discovery of the rich heritage of the local culture in Taiwan."
