Artist Roberto Castillo is perhaps the ultimate HCC success story.

Castillo studied art at HCC Central, went on to earn his BFA in drawing and painting from Stephen F. Austin State University, then an MA in Digital Media Studies from University of Houston Clear Lake. Finally coming full circle, Roberto returned to HCC as a graphic designer at the Southeast campus and now his exhibit, “The Universe Within” is on display at the Central Art Gallery.

“The Universe Within” is a digital art project that merges portrait photography of 12 individuals with Hubble Space Telescope imagery. Each image, distinct to that individual extols the scientific and spiritual concept that the universe, both literally and metaphysically, is present within everyone. Castillo is an a Native-American multi-media artist born and raised in Houston. Seen through the lens of his Toltec and Mexica heritage, his work can best be described as the outer expression of an internal spiritual journey.

The exhibit, held in conjunction with FOTOFEST 16, opened March 2 and will be in the gallery through April 5.
