As Houston Community College continues to transform into the College of the Future, the engineering and architecture firms, and construction companies involved in the Groundbreaker Bond program are building career opportunities for HCC students. These students are paid interns chosen by project construction managers to work in their offices and/or out in the field.

Carlos Espluga spends his internship hours with Skanska USA working side-by-side with the field superintendent and the project manager overseeing the construction of the new garage at the HCC West Loop Campus.

Espluga is the first HCC international student to participate in the Groundbreaker Bond Internship program. The Venezuela native documents any construction defect he may come across and sends a report out to the subcontractors so they can be fixed as the project moves along. His construction background makes Carlos a real asset to the team.
