Right Click Report: Career and employment fairs

Oct 15, 2015

Houston Community College filled 110 tables with company representatives at three career and employment fairs at its southwest Houston locations, connecting over 1000 people with employers. The free job fairs at the West Loop, Stafford and Missouri City Campuses gave potential hires the chance to interact with employers in a relaxed setting and for employers to fill vacancies at an improved rate.

“Job fairs connect our students and community to employment opportunities within a centralized marketplace,” HCC Job Placement Associate Dr. Carolyn Davis said. “At Houston Community College, we strive for a more personal setting to allow the job seekers to interact with potential employers without the formalities of the office environment. It’s also a networking opportunity to gain an understanding of the qualifications for a job and selection criteria.”

The fair offered a variety of employment opportunities for job seekers to choose from. It even gave employers a designated interview room to have a more intimate setting with promising candidates.

“I love the fact that there are so many vendors,” HCC student and job fair participant Farshad Namazkar said. “Students that don’t have an idea of what they want to do can get an idea here. For me personally, I was focused on what I wanted to do and went to the specific companies I sought out.”
