HCC kicks off March of Dimes campaign

Apr 2, 2015

Employees at the Houston Community College District office helped kick off the 2015 March of Dimes Campaign.

Every college across the HCC system is working hard to raise money for research to defeat premature birth and birth defects. Whit Robinson, project engineer for Jacobs Engineering, shared a touching story about the birth of his twins, a boy and a girl, several months premature. His son Cal was one pound, 15 ounces and went through several lifesaving medical procedures.

“Doctors thought he would be blind, in a wheelchair with a feeding tube,” Robinson said. “The March of Dimes really helped and gave us hope.”

Today, Cal and his sister Naomi are 6 years old, extremely bright and healthy.

“Every dollar raised helps,” said Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC chancellor. “Research is going on year-round, we need to help fund that research.”

The goal is to surpass the $40,000 raised last year. The fundraising campaign will culminate with the March for Babies Walk on April 26 at the University of Houston.

How you can help: please donate to the March of Dimes and/or participate in the March for Babies walk.
