Katherine Rhodes Fields, Division Chair of Visual Arts since 2018 and interim dean, has been appointed dean of the HCC Media, Visual & Performing Arts Center of Excellence.

Fields has a rich background in the visual arts world, from printmaking to graphic design. She has taken her commitment to her craft beyond the studio and become a passionate advocate for arts education, collaborating with language scholars to design innovative curricula that incorporated visual arts-based pedagogical methodologies. Her belief in the power of creativity to enhance learning led her to teach workshops around the world, including Serbia and Mexico. She also brought her artistic talents to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, France and Macedonia.

Fields was president of PrintHouston, a Houston-based arts non-profit, from 2015 to 2019. She also serves on the boards of the SkopArt Foundation and Defunkt Literary Magazine.

Fields has a MFA and MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She has been with HCC since 2012 when she was hired as full-time visual arts faculty and Head of Printmaking.
