The healthcare students and community partners of Houston Community College - Coleman College for Health Sciences shined at the Coleman Tower 5th Anniversary Reception on Thursday, Sept. 28.

During her remarks, HCC Board of Trustees District IV Representative Reagan Flowers, Ph.D., invited all the healthcare students in attendance to join her on stage as a reminder to guests that students are the heart and mission of the college.

The reception was a celebration of Coleman Tower, the annex that opened in 2018 to optimize the instruction of healthcare occupations, and a recognition of individuals and organizations contributing to the success of the HCC Coleman College healthcare programs.

Those who were honored at the event were: Gottumukkala S. Raju, M.D., with MD Anderson Cancer Center; HCA Houston Healthcare; Memorial Hermann Health System; and Lina and Michael Sabouni with AUTOARCH Architects.

Several HCC leaders participated in the recognition, including: Board of Trustees Chair Cynthia Lenton-Gary, Ed.D.; Board of Trustees District II Representative Charlene Ward Johnson; Board of Trustees District IX Representative Pretta VanDible Stallworth, Ph.D.; Interim Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D.; Coleman College President Phillip Nicotera, M.D; Foundation President Karen L. Schmidt, MBA; and Foundation Board Member Tracy Janda; and Flowers.

After the remarks and recognition, guests enjoyed refreshments and toured Coleman Tower to see the real-world hospital simulation rooms and advanced medical technology available to students. Many of the healthcare students actually led the tours and patient care demonstrations.

Coleman Tower is an extension of HCC Coleman College. HCC Coleman College is the only HCC campus dedicated to the health sciences and the only community college to have a medical training program located in the Texas Medical Center.
