HCC Central College executive selected for elite community college leadership institute

Dr. Stacy Welcome, dean of Student Success at Houston Community College Central, has been selected to participate in the League for Innovation in the Community College’s 2022 Executive Leadership Institute (ELI).

The prestigious program is designed for potential community college presidents to analyze their abilities, reflect on their interests, refine their skills and engage in leadership discussions. The League’s ELI takes place in person in Scottsdale, Ariz. in December 2022 and January 2023.

“I am delighted that one of our best college administrators is furthering her professional development through such an esteemed program as the League’s ELI,” said Dr. Muddassir Siddqi, president of HCC Central.

Dr. Welcome began her career in 2003 as a counselor for HCC, where she excelled as a leader and advocate for students. With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, her administrative success has led to her serving in positions of increasing responsibility, including as advising manager, assistant dean of student engagement, and her currently role.

She said her experience and commitment is eeing that all HCC's students thrive. “My career mission is to create a climate where every student feels welcome and has an opportunity to pursue his or her academic and career goals,” she explained.

Dr. Welcome earned a Ph.D. from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. She holds a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University and a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University in Houston.
