The Talent Solutions Department at Houston Community College, now known as Houston City College, recently held a new Entrepreneurship Seminar in partnership with the local American Turkic Business Council.

The program, held at the HCC Brays Oaks site, brought together a cohort of 10 emerging business professionals for hands-on, interactive training focused on launching and growing businesses.

“The initiative was designed to deliver practical skills in a dynamic, peer-driven format,” said Taraneh Zekavat, HCC director of Talent Solutions. “It’s not just about learning concepts—it’s about putting them into action.”

Through lectures and discussions with seasoned entrepreneurs, participants learned about evidence-based entrepreneurship and business models, financing and valuation strategies, raising capital, marketing and customer acquisition, and business plan development.

The sessions ran weekly for five weeks.

“The program is crafted to provide foundational business knowledge, foster meaningful connections, and equip participants with practical tools to launch and sustain successful ventures,” said Dr. Michael Webster, president of HCC’s Southwest Campus. “We are looking forward to seeing how the emerging leaders in this initiative will bring ideas to life and contribute to the future of entrepreneurship in our community.”

The American Turkic Business Council was established two decades ago in Houston by a group of business owners and professionals to facilitate commerce between the U.S, Turkic, and other nations, to establish partnerships among businesses and organizations.
