Dear HCC Family:

In recognition of Juneteenth, Houston Community College will cancel all classes and close its business operations Friday, June 18, Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20, 2021.

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation is a holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans who were enslaved in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it is now celebrated annually on June 19 throughout the United States.

We apologize for the delayed notice of the time off. We were waiting for the bill to be signed into law to notify you.

President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act today in the East Room of the White House, making it a federal holiday. HCC now invites you to join others in commemorating this occasion and the end of slavery in the United States.
