HCC named one of top three colleges in Houston area

Houston Community College (HCC) has been named one of the two finalists in the Houston Chronicle's 2021 Best of the Best in Houston community choice awards in the local university and college category.
HCC shares the finalist spot with Rice University, with the University of Houston winning the top title in the newspaper’s second annual award competition.
“We are honored that the community recognizes HCC as among the top three institutions of higher learning in the Houston area,” said HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado. “This is a testament to our achievement in living up to what HCC is all about: we are in the business of serving the community.”
More than 212,000 online votes were cast across Houston and statewide in 11 Best of the Best in Houston categories: Health; Home and Finance; Kids and Education; Legal; People and Places; Services; Shopping; and Sports.
Winners of the local university and college category of the community choice awards were based on reader nominations and votes on chron.com, said Jeni Heard, senior director of sales at the Houston Chronicle.
“We’re grateful for the vote of confidence from the Houston Chronicle readers and the community,” said Madeline Burillo-Hopkins, HCC vice chancellor of Workforce Instruction and HCC Southwest president. “Despite the pandemic, our faculty and staff rolled up their sleeves to create innovative programming in our continued commitment to providing quality education for the community.”
The Houston Community College System this year is celebrating 50 years of service to the greater Houston area. One of the minority-serving institutions, HCC is a leading community college in the U.S. conferring associate degrees to minorities and educating international students. The college focuses on student success that has led to an increase in graduates of more than 12 percent annually.
