Congratulations to the Houston Community College Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) students for their world-class performance at the SHPE 2021 Annual Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC).

Part of RLDC was a nationwide team competition titled, “VUCA - VOLATILE, UNCERTAIN, COMPLEX, and AMBIGUOUS (VUCA) problems.” The Designing for a VUCA World competition is a challenge where teams innovate, impact, and build products and/or services that directly address social problems within their communities.

Seda Yilmaz, Mohammad Harris Waheb and Luis Aguilar were part of the team that won first place at RLDC, while Jesus Enriquez and his team won third place. Each first-place team member won a $150 Amazon gift card, and each third-place team member won a $50 Amazon gift card. Seda, Mohammad, Luis and the other members of Team GameChangers, who were from the University of Houston and University of North Carolina, advance to the final pitch off competition on May 1.

In addition, the HCC Chapter, whose faculty adviser is Professor June Keller, won a coveted Blue Chip Award for its outstanding program activities the past nine months. This is the team’s second Blue Chip Award and continues a tradition of competing in and winning SHPE competitions for the past 3.5 years since the chapter inception. Professor Keller is also LSAMP’s newest faculty mentor.

Kudos to Seda, Mohammad, Jesus, all HCC SHPE chapter members and Professor Keller.
