HCC Board Vice Chair Dr. Reagan Flowers receives Empowered Woman of the Year honor

Dr. Reagan Flowers, vice chair of the Board of Trustees of Houston Community College (HCC), was recently selected by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) as an Empowered Woman of the Year for 2021.
IAOTP selected Trustee Flowers based on her track record of success in education advocacy, community stakeholder engagement, and demonstrated business acumen.
Appointed to the HCC Board of Trustees in 2020, Dr. Flowers was subsequently elected in November 2021 to fill an unexpired term for District IV. She also provided leadership on the governing board as Audit Committee chair in 2020.
She is a distinguished entrepreneur, social change agent, pioneer, innovator, and leading thinker in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Known for changing the way people visualize, conceive, and experience STEM, Dr. Flowers is highly regarded for her work. She is also the founder of C-STEM Teacher and Student Support Services, Inc., and serves as its President and CEO. She is additionally Chief Knowledge Officer for Education Consulting Services, LLC.
Dr. Flowers’ philanthropic efforts reach more than 42 countries with nearly $10 million in services delivered to underserved and underrepresented populations. In 2014, the White House honored her as a STEM Access Champion of Change. She has been named a World Innovation Summit on Education Finalist and nationally recognized as one of the 100 Women Leaders in STEM. Acknowledging her IAOTP honor, Dr. Flowers’ likeness recently appeared on the famous Reuters building in Times Square.
Dr. Flowers serves as a leader of the Minority Leadership in Science Education Initiative for the Smithsonian Institute Science Education Center. She also hosts STEMcast, a podcast with more than 6,000 listeners in over 42 countries. In 2021, she received recognition as one of the top 30 Influential Women of Houston.
“I am honored by this recognition from IAOTP,” Dr. Flowers said. “My lifelong goal is to even the playing field for those who are underrepresented and motivate each person to achieve their full potential through access to education.”
A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Flowers earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas Southern University. She received a master’s degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University and earned her Ph.D. in Education Leadership/Systems from the Union Institute and University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
