A Houston Community College dean has been named Sam Houston State University’s 2018 Distinguished Educator of the Year. Jimmy Adams, dean of the HCC Center of Excellence for Media Arts & Technology, is being recognized for his significant contributions to the field of education.

Honorees must be an SHSU alumni educator who has demonstrated expertise or outstanding service in the classroom, school, district or community.

In January, Adams also received an HCC Chancellor’s Excellence Award at the Spring Convocation. “Jimmy is a creative thinker and educator who likes to push the envelope of innovation,” said HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado. “He richly deserves this recognition.”

The Media Arts & Technology Center of Excellence focuses on digital communication, web development, filmmaking, audio recording, music business, visual effects for multiple media platforms and industry simulation.

Adams said, “I am passionate about using all available technology to teach students skills that will help them reach their goals in the workforce. I am very thankful to SHSU for recognizing my efforts.”

Adams will be honored at an award ceremony and dinner, Saturday, March 3 at SHSU Lowman Student Center Ballroom in Huntsville, Texas.
