HCC to host diversity event to promote women in IT

Feb 22, 2018

As part of a push to spark women’s interest in science, technology, engineering and math-related fields, Houston Community College is hosting a panel discussion, “Understanding/Developing Gender Diversity and Inclusion,” Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the HCC Southwest College West Loop Campus.

The event is sponsored by the HCC Digital and Information Technology Center of Excellence and the Houston Society for Information Management Women’s Network. The network was established to help women in the IT field by promoting diversity, networking and support for each other.

“The panelists will discuss diversity and gender neutrality,” said Kathy Welch, co-chair of the SIM Women’s Network. “They will include their personal and professional experiences and legal perspectives on the topic and some will address why they think there’s a lack of women in IT.”

HCC will have a voice during the education discussion with engineering instructor Christina del Cerro serving as the expert panelist. HCC Southwest President Madeline Burillo-Hopkins will also give the welcoming remarks.
