The theme for Chancellor Maldonado’s State of the College address is, “The intersection of Innovation + Education.” Innovation, growth and opportunity have proven to be a winning formula for maintaining HCC’s position as a leader in producing the skilled workforce and leaders that keep the Houston region going strong. From cutting-edge technology to health sciences, manufacturing and beyond, HCC is constantly reshaping the perception of the role that community colleges play in a modern society. A recent national assessment calculated that HCC generates a total economic impact of $4.1 billion.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the West Houston Institute will take place at 10 a.m. following the State of the College address. Guests will have an opportunity to tour the building at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., before and after the ribbon cutting.

The state-of-the-art facility at HCC’s Alief Hayes Campus is designed to facilitate the collision of ideas and concepts. It combines experiential classrooms and labs; a fully outfitted Makerspace where students can gather to create, invent, and learn; conference rooms and connecting learning commons to facilitate intersections of learning and innovation. By creating a synergy between different kinds of spaces and learning opportunities, HCC students, faculty, staff, and the greater Houston community will find a home for innovation and learning like no other.
