Historic Latino Town Hall impresses HCC Small Business expert

Jul 25, 2017

Liz Lara-Carreño’s greatest satisfaction after participating in Tu voz es Poder: A Latino Town Hall, was the opportunity to provide critical information and resources to entrepreneurs. The event was a perfect forum for Lara-Carreño, Director of Outreach for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program at Houston Community College (HCC).

Held for the first time at the studios of Houston Public Media, the event gathered experts in the field of immigration, business and art to explore the issues that are enhancing the progress of the Houston Latino community.

“One of the questions I got asked a lot was if being Latino was an advantage or a disadvantage when starting a business,” said Lara-Carreño. “In my opinion, it is an advantage because you are a member of a growing community that needs services or goods that perhaps are not being offered in the Houston Market.”

Tu Voz es Poder: A Latino Town Hall was conducted in partnership with Univision Houston and simultaneously broadcast in both Univision and Houston Public Media digital platforms.

“I was so pleased to be part of this event,” concluded Lara-Carreño. “It confirmed the power of information and collaboration. We, at Houston Community College, are informing the community of resources that many businesses don’t know are available, such as the HCC Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program.“
