Karen Schmidt portraitExceptional experience, passion for helping students and a profound understanding of the mission of the Houston Community College (HCC) Foundation are just three of the assets that determined the appointment of Karen Schmidt as the foundation’s new executive director.

“We welcome Karen Schmidt into the HCC family,” says HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado.  “I have total confidence in her vision and guidance. Ms. Schmidt will lead the HCC Foundation to greater heights and help students achieve their professional and educational goals.”

Schmidt, the former executive director of the College of Lake County Foundation, is thrilled to begin this new chapter. Schmidt says, “It is an honor and a privilege to partner with the HCC Foundation Board, whose members are some of Houston’s most respected business and civic leaders.”

Schmidt started with the HCC Foundation on August 21.  She expects to take several weeks meeting with HCC leaders and members of the community, and touring HCC campuses and facilities.

Schmidt says she is confident her previous experience has prepared her for the opportunity to help HCC students achieve their dreams.  “My skills, proven track record, 10 years of nonprofit experience, and over 20 years of corporate experience enable me to be an effective connector to the business community as an advocate for the HCC Foundation.”

Mary Williams, HCC Foundation Board President, says that with Schmidt at the helm, excitement and promise lay ahead. “Her passion for helping students and leading the mission of the foundation in providing resources for students to receive an education will go far. Karen is the right leader at the right time.”
