Eva Loredo named Houston Community College Board of Trustees Chair

At the Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees Special meeting, the board voted to appoint Eva L. Loredo as chair and Christopher W. Oliver as vice chair and Neeta Sane as secretary for the 2017 term.

“The election of our new board leaders is an excellent example of the great transformation taking place at Houston Community College,” says Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC Chancellor. “I appreciate all the Board accomplished under the leadership of former Board Chair Dr. Adriana Tamez, and I am confident we will continue making strides on our path to innovating higher education and workforce development for the communities we serve.”

Trustee Loredo is a long-time education professional and advocate. For nearly 40 years, she worked as an educator, eventually serving as principal of Gallegos Elementary for 11 years. Familiar with the importance of innovation in education, she says her best accomplishment as principal was achieving Recognized Status by the Texas Education Agency for six straight years and an agreement with Aramark to provide free breakfasts to all students.

Since retiring in 2006, Trustee Loredo continued in her role of community involvement. In addition to her work as an HCC Board Member representing District VIII for the last seven years, she consulted as a trainer for the University of Houston. She also conducted the Houston METRO Light Rail Safety School Program for students and served on the Mayor's Magnolia Planning Task Force.

Trustee Loredo earned her Bachelor of Science in Education at Texas Southern University. She received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston and Mid-Management Certification from UH Clear Lake. She is also certified as a teacher in Early Childhood and Bilingual Education. Trustee Loredo has chaired the Hispanic Scholarship Council for several years and continues to support the efforts of raising funds to create scholarships and support services to assist students of Hispanic heritage to complete their higher education goals.

“I am excited to begin this next phase of my career with such a forward-thinking board,” says Trustee Loredo. “With our Board’s extensive experience, I know we will be able to generate the innovative results needed to create the ultimate student experience at HCC.”

During his 22 years of service representing District IX Trustee Oliver demonstrated his ongoing commitment to providing every student with the to achieve their goals by reaching out to previously underserved communities. As a result of his efforts the HCC South Campus building was established and is the first academic institution of higher learning in the history of South Central Houston.

An active advocate for education, Trustee Oliver frequently speaks in support of increased funding for Texas community colleges, connects with regional business organization and seeks opportunities for partnerships to improve training opportunities for minority communities.

Currently, Trustee Oliver is the owner/CEO of Tekoa Property Management Group, Inc. Previously, his work with the U.S. Department of Labor as an EEO specialist over various areas regarding compliance.

Trustee Oliver earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas Southern University. He is a long-time leader of supporting minority male initiatives. Most recently, he served as the honorary chair for the Black History Scholarship Gala helping to raise funds for scholarships.

Trustee Sane is deeply committed to community service. In addition to her 10 years of service on the HCC Board, she is involved in numerous organizations across the state that advocate for education, families and underserved populations.

Trustee Sane is a business owner of a consulting firm, community leader, wife and mother who brings to the HCC Board a unique blend of innovative entrepreneurship, educational background and fervor to develop programs that enhance student success at HCC, serving the community with universal values.

As a strong advocate of workforce training programs, she has been instrumental in the expansion of HCC’s educational and workforce training programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Vocational training in Fort Bend and Alief. She has hosted workforce summits in Southwest Houston, Youth leadership summit for Early College High School students and Rising leaders conference for the HCC honors college. With a dedication to be inclusive of all students, she founded the HCC-ASPIRE scholarship program established to honor the Asian culture. HCC-ASPIRE raises funds to support the educational pursuits and scholastic achievements of students attending HCC, as well as HCC's outstanding faculty and staff.

Trustee Sane earned a Master of Science degree from University of Houston-Clear Lake and completed a second MBA in Finance from the Florida Institute of Technology.
