Dear Neighbors,
As your representative voice on the HCC Board of Trustees, it gives me great pride to share the amazing progress Houston Community College is making throughout District VII. From taking a major step toward building a new campus in Missouri City to commissioning the newly renovated Alief-Hayes campus with a grand opening ceremony, these are some of the most gratifying accomplishments that have occurred during my trusteeship. HCC is fulfilling longstanding promises to the students and community.
We offer our sincere gratitude to each and every person who is committed to supporting student success and access to education in the Alief and Fort Bend County communities.
As promised during the annexations of both Stafford and Missouri City, we are delivering high quality education to these two distinct tax bases. Thanks to the Fort Bend County citizens, city and county officials, town hall participants, my fellow Board of Trustees members, and the HCC administration for their progressive thinking, determination, and perseverance in making the Missouri City campus more accessible on Texas Parkway. We look forward to offering the right balance of academic and workforce programs at the expanded HCC Stafford campus on Cash Road and the new Missouri City Campus on Texas Parkway.
- The relocation of the Missouri City campus to Texas Parkway will offer better access and additional educational opportunities for the current and potential students.
- With relocation at Texas Parkway, students will not have to traverse through neighborhoods to reach the campus and they will have direct access via Highway 90A.
- The new HCC site will get approximately $9.2M as value-add monetary gain in terms of an access road and expanded library space to be provided by Fort Bend County for HCC students to use with no cost to HCC.
The newly inaugurated Engineering Center of Excellence at the Alief-Hayes campus offers educational pipelines to Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering from UT-Tyler and Texas A&M in the $20,000 range, as well as successful careers in various engineering fields. Construction is currently underway for the new West Houston Institute that will provide 21st Century education and technology leading to careers in the STEM fields.
In the fall, HCC will begin providing Dual Credit to any motivated high school student at no charge. This can provide qualified students in grades 9 – 12 with opportunities to earn a certificate, an Associate’s degree, or as much as two years of a college education with no out of pocket expense. .
Partnerships with community and educational partners serve as catalysts to provide opportunities to students that translate into our mission of supporting student success. As your voice on the HCC board, I am proud to be instrumental in the future being created every day at HCC.
