HCC spreads holiday cheer with toy drive

Dec 16, 2016

SW Toy Drive Houston Community College (HCC) made the holiday season brighter for hundreds of disadvantaged children in our area. HCC Southwest College recently teamed up once again with the Houston Fire Department (HFD) and KPRC Channel 2 for Operation Stocking Stuffer, the largest toy drive in the Houston area.

An HFD firefighter crew pulled up to the West Loop campus to load a fire truck with over 250 brand new toys collected by faculty and staff during the two-week drive at the West Loop, Gulfton and Stafford campuses. HFD Captain Ruy Lozano, along with a group of firefighters, graciously accepted the toy donation from President Madeline Burillo, Ed.D. during the Southwest College Holiday Celebration.

This is the third year HCC Southwest has donated toys to the drive in an effort to make the HFD Operation Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive a success. All of the toys collected for Operation Stocking Stuffer stay in Harris County and are given to families in need.

In all, over 600 toys were collected after contributions from various classes. The toys were distributed during the HFD event called “The Great Toy Giveaway” on Dec. 21 in Northeast Houston.
