HCC participates in Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade

Jun 20, 2016

Houston Community College (HCC) participated in the annual Acres Homes Juneteenth parade hosted by City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. HCC had a float and representatives distributed giveaways to participants informing them about educational opportunities at the college. Members of the HCC Board of Trustees Dr. Adriana Tamez, Board Chair and Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, Board Secretary, attended the festivities.

The parade also included a variety of entries from businesses, churches, community organizations, government organizations, educational institutions, and other community partners. The event commemorates the day, June 19, 1865, when a force of federal troops arrived in Galveston to inform the slaves that they were free through the Emancipation Proclamation.

HCC has been a longtime partner in the Acres Homes Community and offers several courses at the Pinemont Center located at 1265 Pinemont Dr., Houston, TX, 77018.
