HCC medical programs receive prestigious accreditations

Oct 28, 2016

The Medical Laboratory Technician and Histologic Technician programs in the Houston Community College (HCC) Health Sciences Center of Excellence have received ten-year re-accreditations by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

“The decision by the NAACLS provides us with the most powerful motivation to continue striving for excellence in every program we offer,” said Theresa Spain, director of the Histologic and Medical Laboratory Technician programs at HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences.

Histologic technicians prepare body tissues enabling pathologists to diagnose cancer and other major diseases. Medical Laboratory Technicians analyze body fluids enabling physicians to make diagnoses and determine treatment for patients.

According to UpSkill Houston, a workforce initiative by the Greater Houston Partnership, there will be a 25 percent increased need for both specialties through 2022.
