Catherine Smith is quite a busy woman. When the Houston Community College adjunct professor is not teaching workforce courses or developing Dual Credit programs, she works at Stephen F. Austin High School in HISD, is a minister, and runs the faith-based non-profit Power4Life Ministries. It’s no surprise -- all that hard work is getting Smith local and national notice.

A nomination and win from RadioOne/NewsOne (Majic 102.1) as Houston Hometown Hero, delivered Smith (pictured left) the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be an honored guest at the 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles. Catherine, along with more than a dozen honorees across the country, was recognized for her extreme work in the community and helping to improve lives daily.

“I am humbled and honored by this great award and recognition for serving the community of Houston as someone who provides help, healing, and hope, ” she said.

Smith loves working at HCC and hopes to be a full-time faculty or staff member in the near future.
