The Commuter: Daily Reflections

If you are having difficulty finding the beauty in your daily commute, you may want to explore “The Commuter: Daily Reflections” at the Houston Community College (HCC) West Loop Campus Gallery.  The exhibition features the paintings of Houston artist J. Marie Valdez. Valdez treasures the dynamic city that is her home.

“My passion for the city of Houston and its infrastructure has come to dominate the imagery within my artwork” she said.

Valdez examines the “commonplaces” Houston commuters passively observe. Her artistic expression brings deeper meanings to the everyday surroundings of the Houston landscape. Capturing weather conditions and times of day, Valdez showcases the rhythm and textures of Houston.

HCC invites you to meet J. Marie Valdez at the opening reception at the West Loop Campus Gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15. The West Loop Campus Gallery is located at 5601 West Loop South, Houston, TX 77081.

The exhibition runs through October 20 and is free and open to the public, Monday-Saturday.
