If you have been to any Houston Community College (HCC) library over the last few months, you may have seen something new at checkout - Chromebooks.

HCC libraries have over 900 laptops available for current HCC students, 18 years and older, to checkout and use either at home or on campus. The goal is to ensure every student has access to online tools and information they need to learn and succeed.

“The Chromebooks enable students who don't already have a laptop to work online. Participating in online classes, carrying out online library research, and completing online labs, will help them keep up and excel in coursework,” HCC Southwest Library Director Bill Hord said. “These students will have the chance to take their work with them when they meet with tutors, faculty and fellow students.”

The process to checkout a Chromebook is easy as 1-2-3. All students need is their current HCC student identification card and a photo ID. Students will be asked to sign a Chromebook checkout and user agreement.

Chromebooks can be checked out for two weeks and renewed twice. Students will have the ability to either renew their current checkout status in person or online. Chromebooks must be returned without damage.
