Catch your success: HCC participates in citywide college fairs

Jul 20, 2016

Finances, time, and fear are just some obstacles keeping many people from getting a higher education. That is why Houston Community College (HCC) is joining forces with a powerful group of industry leaders in education, workforce, health, and finance to lead individuals down paths to productive, successful futures.

HCC, along with Houston Health Department My Brother's Keeper (MBK), University of Houston, Houston Independent School District (HISD), HISD Family Learning Academy, Workforce Solutions, SER Jobs for Progress, Lone Star College, Bank on Houston, PrimeWay Federal Credit Union, Project Grad, Texas Southern University, University of Houston-Downtown, Metro, and One Jump are hosting a series of monthly college fairs across the City of Houston. The Catch Your Success One Stop College Fairs are bilingual, free, and open to the public.

The college fairs are an initiative of Houston Health Department My Brother's Keeper (MBK), a local and national effort designed to improve life outcomes for young men of color and their communities. Dr. Melissa Gonzalez, HCC Chief of Staff, leads the MBK Houston workgroup to improve post high school success.

“HCC is honored to be a part of this unprecedented partnership,” said Dr. Gonzalez. “This event will provide a wonderful opportunity for participants to understand the important role education can play in their lives and begin the process of literally changing their future.”

The first Catch Your Success One Stop College Fair is from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m., Saturday, July 30 at the Northeast Multi-Service Center, 9720 Spaulding, Houston, TX 77016.

Representatives will be available to offer valuable advice and answer questions regarding college applications, scholarships, financial aid, health & social services, and career options. Participants can enjoy free food, entertainment, child care, and a chance to win prizes!
