Up To The Minute Report: August 3

Aug 3, 2015

Students in the Houston Community College Governors Merit STEM Summer program recently came face-to-face with some of the brightest engineers and scientists in America. The 10th and 11th grade students spent the day with their heroes at the Johnson Space Center.

The students also got an up close view of Robonaut 2, a humanoid robot designed to help astronauts at the International Space Station. The massive boosters used to launch space shuttles into orbit were available for students to get unique view of the amount of propulsion needed for NASA missions.

HCC set out to further diversify its enrollment in workforce classes by interacting with potential students at the Chinese Community Center Community Fair in Southwest Houston. Workforce certificates appeal to community members having a hard time finding employment and want to be trained in another field.

HCC has 12 Centers of Excellence, which offer more than 100 programs of study in a variety of careers fields.
