Oct 1, 2015

Houston Community College, Young Invincibles, and Texas Representative Gene Wu from District 137 in Southwest Houston hosted a roundtable discussion that centered around career paths and how to get jobs. This was part of the Young Invincibles Tour, which focuses on empowering the millennial generation with finding jobs in a competitive market.

“Understanding barriers to employment will help us address workforce issues, grow our state’s economy and create high-quality jobs essential to the future of Texas,” Wu said.

During the open discussion, HCC students shared concerns about being overqualified for certain positions and pursuing higher education to change switch career patches or change their financial situations. HCC offers associate degrees and certificates with high job placement rates due to its partnerships with local businesses. Students get real-life training opportunities with equipment used in workforce industries to send graduates and certified students into the workforce ready to contribute immediately.
