Houston Community College awarded VetSuccess Program

Sep 26, 2013

Houston Community College was recently chosen as one of the new locations to offer VetSuccess on Campus, a program that helps veterans transition from military service to academic life. HCC is one of 62 new locations opening this fall, which brings the number of VSOC schools across the country to 94.

In addition to helping Veterans enroll in educational programs and find suitable employment, the VA will provide on-campus outreach to veterans, transition support services, referrals for VA medical and mental health services, assistance in applying for VA benefits, job placement assistance, and coordination with local Disable Veterans Outreach Programs (DCOP), Specialists and Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVERS).

The HCC Office of Veterans Affairs is looking forward to working with the student veterans who are eager to be selected for the services and opportunities the VetSuccess Program has to offer. Veterans Affairs is committed to serving its students and guarantees a positive educational experience at HCC. Veterans and reservists contribute to the diversity and academic excellence needed for a positive educational community. HCC recognizes the contribution veterans make as citizens and students.

In addition to the VetSuccess Program, HCC offers other veterans resources such as the VA Forum Series, which includes instruction by different Social Outreach Coordinators to educate veterans about transitioning into academia, and solutions for problems they may encounter. HCC also offers Military Tuition Assistance, VA Readiness Classes and a Work-Study Allowance Program. Veteran graduates are also celebrated each year with a congratulatory luncheon.
