HCC Southwest secures scholarship opportunity for students

Nov 5, 2015

Listen up students - your life-saving ideas could help you win money for college. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s Commit for Life Scholarship is open to students whose school hosted multiple blood drives in the 2014-2015 school year. Luckily for Houston Community College, nine blood drives were held at the West Loop, Stafford and Gulfton campuses during this time frame to qualify.

“Education is of vital importance to the Blood Center,” Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Donor Recruitment Coordinator Patricia LeBlanc said.  “More than 20 percent of blood in the Gulf Coast area comes from high schools and colleges.  With this scholarship opportunity, we wanted to give back to those who so generously give of themselves so others may live.”

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will award 20 students with $1,000 Commit for Life scholarships. Students applying must use their imagination and creativity to submit a 20-second video commercial or a 500-word essay that will educate and inspire individuals to save lives as a Commit for Life blood donor. The top video submission will be aired as a special highlight on TV as part of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s advertising campaign.
