HCC holds health fairs at West Loop and Stafford Campuses

Sep 17, 2015

For many, college life isn’t easy. Juggling between school, work and other activities can lead students to ignore overall wellness. The Recreational Sports and Fitness Department at Houston Community College took action and hosted its semi-annual health fair at the Stafford and West Loop Campuses, and the theme was "The Healthy College Student."

Students joined the discussion about mental, physical and sexual health, relationships, addiction, campus safety, and financial stability. Free HIV testing, 10-minute massages, vision screening and fitness assessments were provided. The goal was to raise awareness on health issues that relate to students.

“Health fairs put vendors directly in front of students to show the importance of these issues as well as take them step-by-step to either preventing them or fixing them,” Recreational Sports and Fitness Coordinator Shannon Baylor said.

Participating organizations included: Wells Fargo, Houston Women’s Center, Houston Food Bank, Prevent Blindness Texas, United Way, Pregnancy Resource Medical Center of Fort Bend County, HCC Career Planning, United Healthcare, WIC, MCNA Dental, Texas Health Steps, Dental Designers and Texas Children’s Hospital.
