HCC Council for Diversity and Inclusion presents Diversity Champion Awards at summit and expo event

The Houston Community College Council for Diversity and Inclusion held a summit and expo event on Friday, March 27 at the West Loop Campus for HCC faculty, staff and students.

The mission of the HCC Council for Diversity and Inclusion is to create a workplace and educational environment free of discrimination and harassment. That will be achieved with five goals outlined in the HCC Diversity and Inclusion plan.

At the summit, which was emceed by KHOU news anchor Len Cannon, committees throughout the district presented their status on this year’s objectives, which included how they successfully implemented two of the five goals and identified the one goal that needed more work.

The council also presented three individuals with the Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award. The student award went to Antonio Maldonado of Southeast College. The faculty award went to Kenneth Hernandez, department chair of Business Administration at Northwest College. The staff award went to Senta Eastern, ADA counselor at Central College.

These recipients have made outstanding contributions toward advancing the purpose and goals of the HCC Diversity and Inclusion Mission. Congratulations to the winners.

Following the summit, Diversity and Inclusion committee members shared their best practices and annual plan during the expo event. Other representatives from various HCC organizations were also on hand to discuss what their groups are doing to provide support for Diversity and Inclusion.
