Designing Dining serves up a successful event

What do you get when you mix the students of the HCC Interior Design and Culinary Arts programs? A delicious, visually appealing concept called Designing Dining that took over the first floor of the Decorative Center of Houston. This fusion of talent involved teams of two creating conceptual restaurants and menus based on a selected cuisine.

The Culinary Arts students prepped prepared tasting that was presented at each team table; and also included four interior design conceptual presentation boards. A panel of celebrity judges, including registered interior designers and professional certified chefs from the Houston area, enjoyed the designs as well as the delicious culinary creations.

The "Best in Show" award went to Tori Crockett, interior design and Toya Conwright, culinary arts for their French-inspired concept called "Le Mistral". They each won $500. Yadira Sanchez, interior design student and Jedekk Hill, culinary arts student took second place with their Deep South/Soul Food restaurant concept “Siel”, and third place choice went to Emidia Garcia, interior design student and Nohemi Shepherd, culinary arts student with their Asian restaurant concept “Pho Me”. In all, 18 teams that participated worked together for three months researching the history and origins of their assigned cuisine and used a 20,000 square foot building in midtown to execute their ideas.
