A message from HCC Trustee Eva Loredo

Apr 2, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

As a member of the Houston Community College Board of Trustees, I am proud to represent District VIII which “runs like a river” through the East End, Galena Park, Denver Harbor, Northside, the Heights, through Midtown and Montrose areas — and where access to higher education is just a walk or METRO ride away.

District VIII is my home. It is where I worked as a principal and teacher and will continue to motivate students to continue their education and better their socioeconomic status. My message to you comes from the heart, which is to “go get that degree, you can do it.”

The Felix Fraga Academic Campus of HCC Southeast has seen steady growth since its doors opened in 2010, but there was always a plan for future growth. HCC recently broke ground for the new STEM Facility on the Fraga Campus and will meet the growing demands of industries tailored to science, technology, engineering and math. This HCC location has become truly a “community school” starting with the Parent Academy, working with East Early High School students and including the Middle College for students who need that last push to graduate.

The Public Safety Institute (PSI) at HCC Northeast continues to deliver first-class, first responders with the recent graduations of more than two-dozen fire cadets. We are so proud they have chosen to start their firefighting careers in the Houston area. A longstanding relationship between PSI and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has delivered more than $1 million to the HCC Foundation for scholarships and training for Fire, EMS and Police programs.

During my time as trustee, I have spearheaded a committee that has raised more than a quarter-million dollars in scholarships for students. My work for all the citizens of HCC will continue. Let us all work together to keep the momentum of student success going.

In service,

Eva Loredo
