A message from HCC Board of Trustees Chair Zeph Capo

May 7, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

The saying, “with change come new opportunities” is perfect for what is happening at Houston Community College.

Over the past several months, the HCC Board of Trustees, administrators, students, faculty, staff, business leaders, and stakeholders have developed a new vision and transformation plan for HCC. Recently the Board of Trustees adopted those plans and will support the Chancellor, Dr. Cesar Maldonado as HCC leads, supports, and educates Houston’s workforce, while continuing to focus on student success.

Change has also occurred within the HCC Board of Trustees. I am humbled and honored to have been elected to the role of Chairman and have accepted this challenge with enthusiasm and energy. I will stay committed to complete transparency as we move through the transformation.

Students are already seeing the structural transformation with the construction of a new academic building and parking garage on the Northline Campus of HCC Northeast College. The new facilities will include classrooms, labs, art studio, fitness training center and bookstore—all totaling more than 48 thousand square feet, are expected to be finished by late 2016.

HCC is a leader in workforce education with programs that position students for successful careers in high-demand industries.

If you want to grow a business, HCC is the place to explore opportunities for entrepreneurial growth. Our partnership with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program has given entrepreneurs golden opportunities to take their businesses to the next level and contribute to Houston’s economy through creating new jobs.

As Board Chairman and your Trustee for District I, my commitment to you is stronger than ever. Let us work together to help our community and students prosper.

Your education and training begin at www.hccs.edu. Start here. Go anywhere.

In service,

Zeph Capo

Chairman, HCC Board of Trustees

District I
