U.S. Commercial Service official to speak at HCC export workshop

Antwaun Griffin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for U.S. Operations at the International Trade Administration (ITA)- U.S. Department of Commerce, will speak to current and future business owners at an export workshop hosted by Houston Community College.

Appointed by President Obama in May 2012, Griffin oversees the daily operations of the U.S. Commercial Service’s network of 108 U.S. Export Assistance Centers.

Through this work, Griffin and his organization help to facilitate billions of dollars in export sales annually through trade counseling, international business matchmaking, market intelligence and commercial diplomacy.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Griffin as the keynote speaker,” said Dr. Maya Durnovo, chief entrepreneurial officer. “We are also privileged to partner with the US Commercial Service-Houston, the Export-Import Bank and the SBA."

The Build Globally, Sell Globally workshop is one of several activities in celebration of 2014 Houston Minority Enterprise Development Week (MED Week) from October 19-23.

MED Week recognizes the outstanding achievements of minority businesses. It is through the Houston Minority Business Development Agency Business Center (MBDA), operated by HCC.

The workshop is from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m., Wednesday, October 22 at Houston Community College Southeast Learning Hub Building, 6815 Rustic St., Room 108.
