Jan 31, 2014

The Houston Community College 2014 State of the College Address was held at the Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31.

Ms. Renee Byas, HCC Acting Chancellor outlined HCC’s present and future contributions to local and national educational and training demands.

"Some think of HCC as a giant institution, but in reality we are 65,000 men, women and students – we are individuals, professionals, people who believe that education is the answer. And, day after day, each of us in our own way go and get it – whatever it is that drives us to be better, we do it," said Byas.  "Whatever we can do to help others achieve their dreams, their destiny, it is our passion – it is our calling. We are a college that is at the forefront of what is right in education. And, while not all perfect, we are moving forward with an energy, a nimble manner and a flexibility that is indeed rare."

Other topics highlighted in the address were HCC’s major initiatives and partnerships, and facility plans and updates.

"HCC has reached out to our communities, to area businesses, and forged lasting partnerships that benefit students, local industries and neighborhoods," said HCC Board of Trustees Chair Neeta Sane.  "I am honored to serve the college focusing on education and leadership priorities. This year we have important work ahead."
