Houston Community College (HCC) and Jacobs Program Management Co. (Jacobs) held their second GameChanger Small Business Enterprise (SBE) networking event recently at the HCC West Loop Campus. More than 200 attendees came out for the occasion, which brought together prime contractors and SBEs interested in being a part of the large projects. Representatives from project construction managers at risk participated in a panel discussion showcasing information about each project, and small business owners took part in workshops designed to help them with business planning and bonding.

“We want to do everything possible to help SBEs to be part of HCC’s $425 million Groundbreaker Bond Program, and these networking events provide an excellent forum for information sharing and meeting quality contacts,” said Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC Chancellor. “We are committed to meeting our aggressive goal of 35 percent SBE participation in this important effort to bring new workforce and educational facilities our community.”

Named prime contractors at the event included:

More than 14 additional exhibitors were on hand to provide key information to SBEs in areas such as bonding, financing, insurance, wage compliance, becoming SBE-certified and more. HCC begins construction on its Groundbreaker Bond Program in the Fall of 2014, which includes a total of 14 projects across its six colleges. HCC’s small business engagement program, GameChanger, has a goal of awarding 35 percent of related bond construction work to SBEs. HCC and Jacobs will host a third GameChanger SBE event this fall.
