HCC Southwest earns $100,000 STEM Grant

Feb 24, 2014

The Summer Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Merit Program of HCC Southwest will be the beneficiary of a $100,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. It is one of the largest ever awarded the college.

Future STEM majors will attend the special STEM Camp from July 7 through Aug. 1, 2014, at HCC Southwest’s Stafford Campus. Working with Fort Bend ISD, Stafford ISD and Houston ISD, HCC Southwest will use the grant funds to educate rising 10th and 11th-graders in robotics, biology, microbiology and other STEM disciplines.

HCC Southwest applied for the grant through the Governor’s Summer Merit Program in Nov. of 2013; it has just been given the good news to proceed with HCC Southwest’s STEM Camp.
