Interns from HCC's Bond Internship Program describe their summer intern experience:

MEET AMBER MARRERO

Intern testimonial headshot for AmberThis summer, I had the opportunity to gain real-world experience as a summer intern at Jacobs Engineering. Currently, I’m enrolled in the Associate of Science in Engineering Sciences program at HCC, and I’m scheduled to graduate in Spring 2015. After I graduate, I plan on getting my Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UTSA. The professors tell us about what goes on outside of the classroom, but this was a great opportunity to experience it firsthand. The things that I loved about my internship were sitting in on technical review meetings to go over project drawings, and going to all the different meetings that Jacobs had with HCC—the architects, the project managers, outreach, and the users.

This internship has helped me grow, and helped me learn how to work with many different types of people.  It has helped me in my future studies and career by exposing me to the real world, instilling a stronger sense of discipline, and making my communication skills stronger.

MEET JOHN M. GAY II

Procurement Intern Headshot for John GrayThis summer, I interned with Jones, Lang & LaSalle, an experience that helped me gain insight into corporate America while giving focus to my intended career path—I hope to one day work as an IT consultant with a focus on hiring returning veterans. I’m currently studying Network Communications, and I’m enrolled in the Cisco Systems/Security Specialization at HCC. I enjoyed scheduling team meetings, designing project schedules, and having the opportunity to advance alongside the HCC Bond Program from the project’s beginnings were very important educational opportunities for me.

This experience has reinforced my dedication to achieving a certification in Cisco Systems, it is the gold standard of achievement in our field, and this is why I look forward to continuing my education, driving toward that goal.
