HCC ASPIRE opening doors for students

Houston Community College ASPIRE (Asian Scholarship Program Inspiring Results and Excellence) will host its second annual Scholarship Breakfast Thursday, May 8, at the Junior League of Houston. HCC is proud to announce Ash and Leena Shah of Impex Group Holdings as the 2014 Honorary Co-Chairs of the event.
The HCC-ASPIRE program is committed to inspiring HCC’s students and faculty members to excel in the academic world, as well as in the community. The Shahs, who credit their career accomplishments to their concentration on education, wish to relay this same attentiveness to the HCC student base and understand the growing financial needs of Houston’s Asian population within the HCC student body.
Ash Shah, who moved to the United States 25 years ago from Mumbai, India, earned his bachelor’s and MBA and has grown his startup plastics company from a small player to a major competitor in the $56 billion plastics packaging industry. He serves clients ranging from Frito-Lay Inc. to Mars, Inc. Impex has earned significant brand recognition throughout the years, allowing Shah to more recently switch his efforts to taking the company to the next level, with intentions of offering his customers new lines of products while increasing Impex’s overall market share. The success of Impex Group Holdings can no doubt be attributed to Shah’s unwavering drive and work ethic throughout the years.
Both Ash and Leena Shah look forward to contributing to the overall progress of the HCC-ASPIRE program, offering the leadership and influence needed to promote additional sponsorship support for the ASPIRE mission. The HCC-ASPIRE team also looks forward to the direction of the Shahs and the success of the upcoming scholarship breakfast.
Co-Founded by HCC Board of Trustees Chairperson Neeta Sane, Trustee, District VII, with the support of community leaders, public officials, and the HCC Foundation, the HCC-ASPIRE program is designed to support the educational pursuits and excellence of Asian students and faculty of HCC. Through the support of financial awards, HCC-ASPIRE aims to enhance the teaching-learning process that will enable HCC to educate and prepare more students for the 21st century workforce.
