District IV Community Connections: Dr. Betty Young named one of Houston’s most influential women

Feb 5, 2014

Houston Community College’s Coleman College for Health Sciences president, Dr. Betty Young, was honored in Houston Woman Magazine as one of Houston’s 50 most influential women of 2013. Dr. Young was recognized along with Texas Secretary of State Nandita Berry and Houston First Lady Kathy Hubbard.

“This year’s class of influential women reflects what those of us who have lived here a while already knew – that Houston and Harris County give birth to and attract women who excel in a wide range of fields, like business, public service and even publishing,” said Harris County Judge, Ed Emmett.

Houston Woman Magazine selected among hundreds nominated for the honor to be featured in its annual January edition of the magazine.

“As business executives, public official and community leaders, they are truly a talented and driven group of women who work tirelessly in their respective fields,” said Houston Mayor Annise Parker.

As a diverse group of women, each individual shared and featured their thoughts on leadership in the magazine.

“Leadership: Know why you exist – mission,” said Dr. Young. “With the best people around you decide what to do – vision. Then facilitate, drawing ideas for implementation from others and help make them make it happen. Don’t forget to celebrate your successes.”

Since the Annual 50 Women Program was launched in 2008, 250 different women have been recognized as women who lead, inspire and influence those around them. We are proud to celebrate and honor an inspirational leader at HCC and the city of Houston, recognizing Dr. Young as one of these extraordinary women.
